5 Ways to Grow Your Email List and Gain New Customers

Email marketing is an efficient way to communicate but you must first have someone to engage with. If you are looking to create an email list or to grow your existing list with some fresh contacts, here are a few strategies to gain new subscribers.

Have a place on your website to sign up.

Already there? Maybe it needs to be relocated or needs a new look.  Make sure that the sign up button is in a clear location and not surrounded by clutter. It might be time to get rid of some of your side widgets. Keep it simple, do not ask for too much information and ask for only details you need. Make sure to have a call to action that pops.

Include sign up in your social media biography.

On Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn your bio is often your first impression on new viewers.  It is the prime location to share who you are, what you do, and promote your email list.  Redirect them to your sign up and make sure they stay in the loop.

Pin sign up to the top of Facebook and Twitter.

Reinforce your bio with your invite to the email list front and center.  The longer that the post is at the top of your feed, the more attention it will receive with likes, favorites, and shares. 

Solicit the help of your subscribers to share.

Wouldn’t you rather listen to a friends recomendation than some stranger on the internet? With social sharing buttons and “Email To A Friend” buttons, your subscriber’s networks become new potential subscribers.  Make it easy on your new friends and include a “subscribe” button at the bottom of your email so that when the message is shared with them, they can quickly sign up.

Revamp old mailing lists.

People are constantly changing emails, abandoning an old address or switching addresses as they transition companies.  So, chances are there are a lot of inactive addresses that are occupying your emailing list.  Send out an “opt-in” email to your old list encouraging them to re-opt-in. While you will be decreasing your list in size,  this reconstruction will lead to a list of true, loyal followers who can help you grow your email list and business.

There are a few other simple ways you can continue to persuade people to join your mailing list such as: a physical sign up at special events or at your business location, a link in your employee's email signature line, or a pop-up when entering your website.  Incorporating these strategies into your business will lead to a larger network and more effective email marketing.
