Getting to Know Dan
What got you into the digital marketing field?
I was first interested in the communications field when I was around 10 years old. I actually wanted to pursue a career in journalism, specifically sports writing. When I got to college, I knew I wanted to do something around journalism/communications, but wasn't sure if sports writing was right for me. I decided to major in communications anyhow, and I'm glad I did. This is where I was introduced to graphic design, photography, web design, writing, public relations and journalism. Having that package of experience has been crucial for my role at RyTech.
What’s a typical workday like for a director of Digital Design?
A typical day for me isn't exactly typical, because each day brings new challenges and opportunities. But you can typically find me in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign or Lightroom creating logos and designing custom social media, web and print graphics and marketing collateral. You can also find me designing and developing websites for our clients, which means I'm either in the backend working on code, or the front end implementing the latest web design trends.
What’s your favorite part about your position?
My favorite part about my position is having new projects to work on every day and the ability to create something new every day. One hour I may be designing a new logo for a start up company, the next hour working on a new website for a client. Having the freedom of creativity isn't necessarily a luxury that all people have in their job.
What’s your favorite part about RyTech?
My favorite part about RyTech is being a part of a growing team that is energetic, motivated and committed to partnering with our clients. Having the opportunity to work with our clients and introduce them to digital marketing solutions that actually work in 2018 (and gain the attention of their customers) is what gets me out of bed in the morning.
Best book you’ve read?
Mastery by Robert Greene. It really gets you thinking about how to strategically spend your time and energy to master your craft and achieve your goals.
Favorite Movie/TV Show?
Favorite Movie: The Shawshank Redemption
Favorite TV Show: Game of Thrones
Favorite TV Show: Game of Thrones
Coffee, Tea, or Other?
Both, but 1-3 daily cups of coffee is a must.
Vanilla ice cream topped with a brownie and chocolate syrup.
Describe your dream vacation.
Strolling through the streets of Paris (and maybe trying some new wines along the way).
If you were stuck on an island with one possession - what is it and why?
Well I wouldn't choose a phone or a flare gun to help me get off the island, because the question infers that I'm stuck and can't get off. So in that case, I would accept defeat and choose something that I love - photography. Give me a camera!
